Friendship is the most beautiful and profound connection that exists. It is not a simple question of
getting along or being good with another person, it is not just empathy, but it is complicity, looking
over one's shoulder, protecting and unconditionally sustaining each other, without fear, regardless
of everything and everyone. True friendship gestures are not writing every day, tagging in photos or
seeing each other day by day without having a human relationship. Friendship is much more. It is
being there in the moments of need. Meeting opportunistic people happens to everyone, at least
once in life, but, fortunately, friends exist, the real ones. Especially in the era in which we live, it is
difficult to find such friendships, we all want to receive likes and to have more and more followers.
Having many followers doesn’t mean having tons of friends; friendship does not have anything to
do with this. In my opinion, it makes no sense to have such a big variety of “friendships”, or
connections, it is only a matter of opportunism or they don’t really know each other. Friends, the
real ones, are those who are always beside you, it is not the quantity but the quality that counts. I
must say that I was very lucky. To be honest I was much more than lucky, I could see first-hand that
real and sincere friends exist. They have always been here for me and continue to be near,
especially during these times I feel even more united to them and that this relationship has grown
even more and maybe I will never be able to thank them enough. They have always been close to
me, especially during an important moment for me, concerning my transsexuality.
There is a friend of mine with whom we exchange nicknames and we take as an example two
figures whose friendship is so famous, I am Sherlock Holmes and she is the female version of Dr.
Watson, Jessica Fletcher. But my favourite nicknames, that I exchange with another friend of mine
are Conan and Pollon. It is amazing when you have someone else with whom you feel at ease,
sometimes without saying anything. This is one of the most beautiful demonstrations of friendship.
Seneca said, “One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and to be
understood”. Friendship is that feeling, that relationship that will unite you to another person, for
life.
